"O" Licenses and Requirements
Often known as ‘O’ Licenses, Operator Licences give you the legal authority to operate goods vehicles in Great Britain.

Which Operator Licence do I need?
There are different kinds of license. It’s our job to make sure you acquire the one that’s right for your transport operation.
Restricted Operators’ Licence

Restricted Operators’ LicenceDo you transport your own goods for your own commercial use?
Then the Restricted Operators’ Licence is the one you need. It’s different from the other types of Operators licences, in that you don’t need to employ a nominated Transport Manager. But - you do need to appoint a nominated ‘responsible person’. You must also keep to the other requirements of a restricted licence.

Standard National Operators’ Licence
This is the licence you need if you transport goods on behalf of others within the UK. It’s known as ‘hire and reward’
Standard International Operators’ Licence
You’ll need this if you’re carrying goods overseas on behalf of others.
As well as this, you might also acquire a UK Licence for the Community. This permits you to
trips between EU member countries

Requirements
CPC Holder
Only required for the Standard National and International Licences
Operating Centre
Somewhere either owned/leased of permission has been granted to park
Financial Standing
At least 3 months accounts demonstrating sufficient founds to maintain the fleet
The current financial standing is:
For a standard national and international licence
- £8,000.00 for the First Vehicle
- £4,500.00 for Additional
For a restricted licence (these remain unchanged):
- £3,100.00 for the First Vehicle
- £1,700.00 for Additional
Maintenance Requirements
In house planned scheduling or outsourced contact maintenance plan.
A Statutory Notice
This must be advertised inviting objections to the operating centre. The wording of the notice can be found and is detailed on the GV79 form, but it must be advertised in a newspaper that is in free circulation in the same area of the operating centre.
